Drinking water research Food

Good water quality is important. Water used for drinking or swimming must be free of harmful substances and must not contain excessive amounts of (harmful) microorganisms. Various laws and regulations stipulate how water quality must be guaranteed. We have extensive experience as a research laboratory in the field of water quality and carry out various types of water testing.

Drinking water testing Food at a glance

  • By law, the drinking water you use must be safe

  • We carry out water testing to test your drinking water

  • We can also analyse process water and wastewater

(EU) 2020/2184

Normec investigates whether the quality of your drinking water complies with Directive (EU) 2020/2184. The presence of E. coli, for example, can indicate faecal contamination. This can cause illness in humans if the bacteria are detected too late. Prevent people from becoming ill and have your drinking water tested regularly.

Standard drinking water package

In our standard drinking water package, we can test your drinking water in accordance with Directive (EU) 2020/2184 for the following microbiological parameters:

  • E. coli and coliforms according to ISO 9308-1

  • The germ count at 22˚C / 36˚C according to ISO 6222

  • Enterococci according to ISO 7899-2

Analyses of other water samples

We also analyse different water samples, such as process water and wastewater, for various microbiological parameters. During this process, we can test these water samples for germ count, E. coli, coliforms, Clostridium perfringens, and enterococci. The analyses are performed under accreditation.

We have special sample containers for the analyses.

  • When taking samples, it is important that the sample containers are completely filled and stored at a temperature below 7 °C

  • This ensures the quality of the sample and the reliability of the test results

  • Depending on the analysis, a water sample must also be processed at the laboratory within 6-18 hours of sampling

  • It is therefore important to coordinate the sampling in advance

  • You will receive a detailed description of the procedure and coordination for the analysis

Frequently asked questions

Under EU Directive (EU) 2020/2184, drinking water must be free from harmful microorganisms such as E. coli and enterococci. Regular testing helps prevent public health risks.

We analyse microbiological parameters like E. coli, coliforms, enterococci, and total viable counts. Process and wastewater can also be tested for similar indicators.

Use the correct sample containers, fill them completely, and keep them below 7 °C. Depending on the test type, samples must reach the lab within 6 to 18 hours after collection.
