Leading in Environmental Analyses for Pathogens
Environmental analyses
Pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and E. coli pose serious health risks. An outbreak can cause large-scale recalls and damage the reputation of a food company. A good environmental monitoring program significantly reduces the risk of food infections and recalls.
Environmental analysis in a nutshell:
From March 2025, it has become mandatory to draw up a monitoring plan for environmental pathogens, in accordance with the GM4 self-monitoring module
We guide you through this process and translate the rules into practical measures that can be implemented
Mandatory from March 2025
From March 2025, all food businesses (*) in Belgium must draw up a monitoring plan for environmental pathogens in accordance with the GM4 self-checking module. This plan is based on a detailed risk analysis that determines which analyses are necessary, where they are carried out, and how often they are performed.
(*) Exception: companies covered by guide G-006 (poultry slaughterhouses and cutting plants) and G-018 (red meat slaughterhouses and cutting plants). For these sectors, environmental analysis is already included in the self-checking guides.
Starting point: gap analysis
The first step is a gap analysis: a baseline measurement that provides insight into the current situation and the actions needed to become compliant. We map out:
Where does your organisation stand currently?
What needs to be done to meet the requirements?
What are the estimated costs?
