BRCGS Packaging Materials version 7

The final version of BRCGS Packaging Materials 7 was published on October 28, 2024. Audits according to BRCGS Packaging Materials 7 will take place from April 28, 2025. BRCGS Packaging Materials

BRCGS Packaging Materials is the first packaging standard to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). It applies not only to food packaging manufacturers, but also to manufacturers of packaging for all applications throughout the supply chain, including single-use products:

The standard contains requirements for the manufacture of packaging materials used in the manufacture and filling of:

  • Food, beverages, and animal feed

  • Hygiene-sensitive consumer products (including cosmetics and pharmaceutical products)

  • Packaging materials for raw materials and other consumer products such as disposable products for single use (if applicable).

The requirements are also intended to apply to:

  • manufacture of products/materials for processing or printing

  • operations where packaging material is supplied from stock and additional product processing or repackaging takes place

  • the manufacture and supply of materials that are not or only partially converted and are used or processed (e.g., inks, varnishes, coatings and adhesives)

  • other products that use similar production technologies but are not packaging and would otherwise be considered consumer products, e.g., disposable cutlery and tableware, napkins, straws, polyethylene gloves
