Normec Foodcontrol provides inspection and control solutions for a safe food chain.
Normec Foodcontrol offers specialized inspection and control solutions for every link in the food production chain. Two large laboratories are located in Wetteren: a microbiological laboratory for bacteriological investigations and a chemical laboratory for the analysis of nutritional values, allergens and other chemical components. In our laboratory, we combine practice with precision to guarantee the quality of products from the beginning of the chain.

Microbiological and chemical analyses of food and water
Food Control was founded in 1991 as Meat Control and originated from the quality control department of a company in the meat sector. Over the years, more and more other companies in the food sector started having microbiological analyses carried out by the lab. The name Meat Control no longer reflected what the company did. Changing the name to Food Control was therefore a logical step. The lab has since expanded and now carries out both microbiological and chemical analyses on food, animal feed, water, animal by-products, and manure.
In order to continue growing in the future, all forces have been joined and the decision has been made to join Normec Foodcare.

Chemical analysis
Normec provides chemical analyses of your products to determine nutritional values or detect contaminants. This ensures compliance with legal requirements for labeling and food safety.
Contaminants and residues
With our contaminant and residue analysis, food and feed products are tested for compliance with legal limits to help protect consumer health.
Chemical decay
Normec assess chemical spoilage in food and feed by measuring key rancidity indicators such as peroxide value, free fatty acids, hexanal and TBARS — supporting your quality control process.
Allergens
We support your allergen management with validated lab analyses (ELISA, PCR, steam distillation), risk assessments, and labelling checks, in line with Dutch and international standards.
Additives
We analyse food and feed additives such as preservatives, antioxidants, and colourants in line with EU Regulation 1333/2008. There are different types of analyses for additives.
Environmental analyses for pathogens
Environmental monitoring for pathogens like Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli helps reduce food safety risks and avoid recalls. We support you in developing a compliant monitoring plan, mandatory in Belgium from March 2025.
PCR method
Our real-time PCR method detects microbial DNA in products, delivering results 24 hours faster than traditional tests. This enables earlier product release and extends shelf life, with clear results accessible online and direct expert support.
Predictive modelling
Predictive modelling is predicting the behaviour of pathogenic bacteria in food products. This is important for quality managers and such research often reveals surprising results. Normec Foodcare has the knowledge to carry this out for you.
Risk analysis and management plan for Listeria monocytogenes
All business risks must be minimized. When it comes to Listeria monocytogenes, prevention is better than cure. We can help you with your Listeria monocytogenes risk analysis.
Baseline measurement of Listeria
Are all processes within your company organized in such a way that Listeria control is guaranteed? Are you aware of the current status? With a Listeria baseline measurement, you can quickly find out and immediately adjust your business processes.
Shelf life study
As a food producer, you must substantiate the shelf life of your products. Normec conducts microbiological and sensory shelf life testing and provides advice on both the current shelf life and possible extension.
Challenge test
It is a fact that you must meet the requirements of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). This also includes a study into the shelf life of your ready-to-eat food product. We ensure that you meet all conditions thanks to our challenge test.

We regularly receive questions about the microbiological analysis plan. For example about the (legal) standards for microbiological parameters. Establishing microbiological standards depends on several factors and is therefore different for every food company.
Microbiological Analysis
In order to guarantee food safety, as a food company you must continuously perform microbiological analysis on the products produced. This must be done before the products go to the consumer in order to protect the consumer.
Vitamins and minerals
We provide precise vitamin and mineral analyses for food products to ensure compliance with European regulations and deliver clear insights into their nutritional composition. Our methods include HPLC for vitamins and ICP for minerals and trace elements.

Normec Foodcare emerged from a collaboration between leading laboratories, expertise and consultancy firms, inspection and training organizations in the food sector. The laboratories are spread throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Each laboratory has its own expertise and therefore also its own accreditations. All our laboratories work in accordance with a quality system based on NEN-EN-ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for general requirements for the competence of laboratories.

Working at Normec Foodcontrol
Two large laboratories of Normec Foodcontrol are located in Wetteren. In the microbiology lab, bacteria are examined. The chemical lab examines, among other things, nutritional values and allergens. We perform all analyses on food, animal feed, drinking water, sanitary water and groundwater. Strong collegial bonds The team at Foodcontrol is relatively young and dynamic. Within the departments, employees form a close-knit team, but there are also collegial ties across the departments. Having a chat in the corridor or at the coffee machine happens regularly in the lab in Wetteren. There is also less hierarchy these days and the atmosphere is loose. Company garden This location is in a small industrial park, nevertheless there is plenty of greenery nearby. In fact, the lab has its own garden, with lawn and benches.
