Demonstrable knowledge assurance at Wheyco

Wheyco (formerly DVNutrition) has been working with digital inspections and the online manual for several years. They have also been using the E-learning module for the past year and a half. The company makes use of the unique link between the digital manual and E-learning training courses. Mirjam Schalkwijk and Annette Wijnands introduced this working method within the organization from the HR department.

Securing Learning & Development

In 2017, the company was looking for a Learning & Development system to secure training and education within the organization. Mirjam and Annette sat down with several parties to compare the options available on the market in the field of training software. Mirjam explains how they arrived at the choice of E-learning: "User-friendliness and accessibility of the E-learning system were paramount. Because we work a lot with procedures, work instructions, and standards in our online manual, we were enthusiastic about training employees directly using this documentation and thus securing knowledge. The direct link between learning and our manual makes this software easy to work with for our organization."

Ease of use

Good user-friendliness of the software was one of Wheyco's most important requirements for switching to online learning. "We felt that the e-learning had to be very easy to use, both for employees and for management by our department. We find the module very user-friendly and have also noticed that employees can easily follow the training courses. If we have any questions, the support department is quick to help us," says Annette enthusiastically.

Continuous improvement

Mirjam continues: “For years, continuous improvement has been one of our top priorities. But how do you implement this in an organization? The link between the digital manual and E-learning offers a solution.” With this feature, Wheyco links documents from the manual to an E-learning training course. When documents are changed or new documents are added, employees are immediately invited to take a new E-learning course. The document matrix gives the company continuous insight into which employees have acquired which competencies and are therefore available for a particular position. Mirjam enthusiastically recounts her experiences with this link: "This ensures that our employees' knowledge is always up to date. They have the competencies required to perform a job. In addition to the e-learning courses, changes are also trained on the job. Only when employees are aware of the change, are willing to work with it, and the change or modification is embedded in their hearts, minds, and hands is the process truly secured."

Flexibility and demonstrable results

Mirjam and Annette, together with the organization, recognize that digital training with E-learning fits in well with modern training methods. In addition, it offers an important practical advantage for 24-hour production, where work is carried out continuously in shifts.

Annette: “You are no longer dependent on training sessions that you have to schedule during office hours. People can follow training courses during their own working hours. They decide for themselves when is a quiet and suitable time to do this. What's more, during an audit, it is also easy to demonstrate how you have ensured training and education within the organization.”

Food Safety Culture

The transition from external training courses to online learning was a significant change. "There is now much more training than before, but we feel that it has become more effective. For example, we now notice that people themselves raise the alarm when a training course has expired or when they have failed. This has created more personal responsibility. E-learning is now seen as a normal way of training within the employee development process. I am therefore extremely proud that all employees are following the e-learning training courses properly and on time," concludes Mirjam with a proud smile on her face.
