Examination of Water Samples from Dental Treatment Units

Normec Valitech, as an accredited testing laboratory, offers microbiological analysis of operating water from dental treatment units in accordance with the S2k guideline “Hygienic Requirements for Water in Dental Treatment Units.” The examination serves to control the quality of the operating water used in the practice and supports compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Your Benefits with Normec

  • Accredited laboratory – legally compliant and regulator-recognized results

  • Comprehensive analytics – total colony count, Legionella, and additional parameters

  • Easy sampling – complete kit, quickly performed in the practice

  • Fast evaluation – clear test report for immediate documentation

What is the purpose of the water sample?

The analysis of the water sample enables the hygienic assessment of the operating water in dental treatment units. It is particularly required when authorities request an examination or when practices want to check water quality as part of their internal hygiene controls.

Provision of sampling materials

For each treatment unit, we provide a complete sampling kit. This includes:

  • Styrofoam box with cooling packs

  • a sterile water bottle

  • a sample submission form

This ensures proper sampling and safe transport of the sample.

Laboratory supplies

Who collects the sample?

The sample can be collected by the operator or practice staff. A straightforward sampling instruction is included with each kit.

Where is the sample collected?

A separate sample must be taken for each treatment unit. The specific sampling point is determined on-site – for example at the cup filler or at a connection for handpieces. We recommend pooling several sampling points of one unit into a single sample bottle.

The designation of the treatment unit and the exact sampling location must be documented in the sample submission form.

How is the sample collected?

The sampling is carried out using the sterile water bottle provided:

  1. Open the tap and let the water run freely for approx.

20 seconds (at least 1 liter).

  2. Without closing the tap again, fill the sample bottle directly.

  3. Close the bottle immediately and prepare it for shipping.

Which parameters are analyzed?

We routinely analyze:

  • Total colony count at 36 °C

  • Legionella

Additionally, testing for Pseudomonas is recommended. After all analyses have been completed, you will receive a comprehensive test report with the results.
