PFAS analysis in soil
BELAC-accredited soil laboratory
Soil is a major sink for PFAS contamination. Normec Servaco accurately analyses which PFAS compounds are present in your soil, sediment or raw materials, in accordance with VLAREBO, NEN and current remediation standards.
When should PFAS soil testing be carried out?
Transaction or sale of a plot of land
Previous use of fire-fighting foam (AFFF)
Earthworks and soil reuse
Industrial activities involving the use of PFAS
Agricultural land fertilised with PFAS-containing sludge
Permit requirement or soil remediation
Why PFAS requires special attention
PFAS compounds bind strongly to soil and sediment and persist in the environment for a long time. As a result, authorities are increasingly imposing requirements regarding the assessment of PFAS levels in soil, both for existing sites and for planned works. Depending on the use of the site and the proposed activities, a soil investigation may be necessary to assess risks and comply with legal obligations.
What does a PFAS analysis involve?
Soil and, where applicable, sediment samples are analysed for the legally required PFAS components, using validated extraction methods and LC-MS/MS analysis. Every analysis is carried out under accredited quality assurance procedures.
You will receive a clear report containing measurement values and compliance checks, suitable for official procedures such as technical reports, earthworks notifications or permit applications. In the event of exceedances, our experts will advise on next steps.
Step-by-step guide to PFAS analysis in soil
- 1
Intake & analysis package
We assess the purpose of the investigation, the site’s history and the requirements of the competent authority, and on that basis recommend the appropriate analysis package.
- 2
Soil and sediment sampling
You can either supply your own samples or use our sampling service. We provide PFAS-free containers and ensure proper storage and transport.
- 3
Analysis in an accredited laboratory
The samples are extracted and analysed using LC-MS/MS, with internal quality controls throughout the entire analytical process.
- 4
Reporting & compliance assessment
You will receive an analysis report containing measurement results, assessed against the applicable standards and threshold values for your region.
- 5
Advice in the event of an overrun
If limits are exceeded, our experts will discuss the possible next steps, such as further investigation, remediation or control measures.
