New CCV agreement: sprinkler heads may be retained under conditions

The Centre for Crime Prevention and Safety (CCV) has published the new harmonisation agreement 2025-01. It deals with the replacement of sprinkler heads in the usage phase. The agreement provides clarity on situations in which sprinkler heads may be retained despite the expiry of their specified service life.

What does the agreement entail?

Sprinkler heads usually have a maximum usage period. Once this expired, they previously had to be replaced by default. The new appointment allows sprinkler heads to be retained if two conditions are met:

  1. A representative sample has been taken, the results of which show that the sprinkler heads are functioning properly.

  2. A clear reassessment period is established.

Tis procedure must be recorded in the inspection report and may only be applied if there are no discrepancies or visible defects.

What does this mean for our clients?

Normec FSS inspects and assesses sprinkler systems according to the applicable certification schemes. Thanks to this new harmonisation agreement, we can now take into account the possibility of older sprinkler heads complying with the set requirements under conditions during inspections.

Please note that Normec FSS is an independent inspection body. We do not advise on replacement strategies, but we can inform you about the applicable standards and agreements such as this harmonisation agreement.
