Technical Bulletin 64-2024 on Foam Concentrate Proportioning Systems
On October 2, 2024, the updated Technical Bulletin TB 64-2024 was published. This bulletin, titled “Foam Concentrate Proportioning Systems”, replaces the previous TB 64B. With this complete revision, an important step has been taken to clarify and update the application of standards related to foam concentrate proportioning systems in all types of fixed fire suppression systems (VBB systems).
What’s new in TB 64-2024?
TB 64-2024 focuses exclusively on the application of standards and intentionally leaves out more situation-specific issues. Topics explicitly outside the scope of this bulletin include:
Whether foam concentrate proportioning is necessary;
What performance requirements apply to the proportioning system (such as the mixing ratio);
The suitability of the foam concentrate for the applied foam generators.
These aspects are determined by the risk to be protected, the design standard, the requirements of the involved parties, and the type of VBB system.
No impact on the foam transition
TB 64-2024 is separate from the ongoing foam transition, which focuses on the shift from fluorinated to fluorine-free foam concentrates. For any project undergoing this transition, a complete reassessment of the suitability of the VBB system in combination with fluorine-free foam concentrate is required. This reassessment falls outside the scope of the bulletin.
However, the bulletin does become relevant if that reassessment leads to modifications to the foam proportioning system. In such cases, TB 64-2024 provides the guidelines for correct application of the relevant standards.
More information
TB 64-2024 is an essential reference for professionals involved in the design, assessment, or maintenance of foam concentrate proportioning systems. For more information about this bulletin, please refer to the CCV.

Fire station destroyed due to missing fire alarm
In the German town of Stadtallendorf, a fire station was completely destroyed by a fire. The blaze spread unchecked because part of the station—only opened in January—had no sprinkler system or fire alarm. The damage is estimated at a minimum of 20 million euros.
The fire broke out shortly after 4:00 a.m. One of the vehicles may have caught fire, according to regional broadcaster Hessenschau. Local authorities confirmed that no fire detectors or sprinklers were present in the part of the station where the fire started.
