Creating impact through clean water 

Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, and a pressing global challenge. At Normec, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond compliance, innovation and service excellence. That belief underpins our commitment to Water for Life, a foundation dedicated to providing clean drinking water and sanitation to underserved communities around the world. 

Why we support Water for Life 

Each year, Normec supports charitable causes that reflect our values and areas of expertise. Water for Life is a natural fit: clean water is not only essential to life, it is also at the heart of what many of our entities do every day - through testing for water safety and hygiene. 

By supporting Water for Life, we contribute to solutions that are sustainable and locally embedded. The foundation works with local entrepreneurs, utilities and community groups, ensuring that each project is rooted in local knowledge and ownership. This way, impact is not only immediate but lasting. 

In 2023, our donation helped provide access to clean water in six public schools, one hospital and over 2,800 families in Balamban and Carcar, in the central Philippines. That means fewer health risks, safer hygiene conditions, and more time for education, work, and community life. In total, more than 5,600 lives were positively impacted. 

Seeing the difference first-hand 

To better understand the local context and see the impact of our donation, two Normec colleagues joined Water for Life on a project visit to the Philippines. Nienke Faber-Van Lokven and Tatiana Pershukova, both part of the Normec team, witnessed firsthand how this project impacted the local people.  

As Tatiana explains, “Their lives had truly changed. They saved an enormous amount of time because they no longer had to fetch their drinking water from the distant waterfall. The risks they faced while making the slippery descent to the river to wash their clothes - often in flip-flops - were now also a thing of the past.” 

What stood out most was the resilience and optimism of the local people - and the strong connection between the local Water for Life teams and the communities they serve. “It was beautiful to witness how the projects are genuinely initiated and realised by locals, for locals,” Tatiana adds. 

A shared commitment to a better world 

At Normec, we believe that sustainability is about more than reducing environmental impact. It is also about creating lasting value - through partnerships, expertise, and shared purpose. That’s why we support initiatives like Water for Life. Because safe water isn’t a luxury. It’s a basic right. And making it accessible is something we can - and should - contribute to.
