Sharing insights on 6PPD-q
Discover our research on the emerging contaminant 6PPD-q at the NICOLE workshop
We’re pleased to share that our Technical and Quality Director, Dr Ken Scally recently presented a poster on 6PPD-q, an emerging contaminant of concern in environmental monitoring, at the NICOLE Fall Workshop 2025 in Budapest this November.
The focus on the workshop was on Remediation of legacy pollutions with focus on developing and operating industrial sites.
The workshop had 5 thematic sessions, which were:
Networks and funders in remediation.
Remediation in Hungary.
Innovation in sampling, interpretation and analysis.
Innovation and decision-making challenges.
Innovation for remediation of recalcitrant contaminants.
Ken Scally, alongside Normec colleagues explained how 6PPD-q is a transformation product of 6PPD, a chemical commonly used in tyre manufacturing. Recent studies have linked it to aquatic toxicity, prompting increased interest in its detection and regulation. Our poster presentation outlined:
The chemical profile and environmental behaviour of 6PPD-q
Analytical methods used for detection
Challenges in sample preparation and quantification
Implications for environmental risk assessment
This research reflects our commitment to staying at the forefront of environmental science and supporting clients with advanced analytical capabilities.
