Destructive testing of butt fusion welding
The quality of a weld joint is crucial when manufacturing a butt fusion weld in a PE piping system. Normec guarantees the quality of PE butt fusion weld connections by:
Control of preparations and welding parameters before the start of the welding process
Control during and after the welding process on site
Visual inspection of test welding and field welding on location and in our own laboratory
Ultrasonic ToFD examinations of field welding on site

Destructive testing of test welding and field welding
In its own laboratory, Normec QS has accredited facilities for the preparation and testing of butt fusion welding in accordance with the applicable standards. We can perform the following tests on both representative test welding and field welding:
Tensile tests PE butt fusion welding – according to NEN 7200:2017
Tensile tests PE butt fusion welding < 90 mm – according to ISO 527-1 and ISO 527-2
Tensile tests PE butt fusion welding > 90 mm – according to ISO 1395
Use of elongation tests
By carrying out tensile tests, Normec QS checks whether butt fusion welds are strong enough and meet the set requirements. Its quality is measured on the basis of applicable international ISO-NEN standards.
Non-destructive testing (NDT examination)
In addition to destructive testing of butt fusion welding, Normec QS offers the possibility of non-destructive testing (NDT) of butt fusion welding. This takes place through visual inspection and ultrasonic ToFD examination.
