Evacuation alarm system

For evacuation alarm systems, there has been no legally driven certification in the past. The Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving (Bbl) contains regulations aimed at ensuring human and animal safety. Therefore, the legislator has decided that not only a fire alarm system must be certified, but that the quality of evacuation alarm systems is at least as important they must also be provided with an inspection certificate.

The purpose of an evacuation alarm system is to protect human life by raising the alarm in time to evacuate in the event of a fire. There are different types of evacuation alarm systems. For instance, evacuation alarm systems with a voice message (type A) or an installation with acoustic speakers (type B). Increasingly, home automation systems are being used, which enable evacuation via smartphones. Is that certifiable? The answer is simple: yes, it can. However, this requires a good baseline document (UPD). Read more about smartphone evacuation alarm systems.

When to have an inspection?

For certain objects, an evacuation alarm system is required by the Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving (Bbl) which is provided with an inspection certificate in accordance with the CCV inspection scheme. The objects concerned are clearly described in an appendix to the Building Act. If a fire alarm system is required by the Building Code, the presence of an evacuation alarm system is also mandatory. Of course, it is also possible to have an inspection carried out on a voluntary basis. For example, to have certainty about the implementation or status of your evacuation alarm system or as a second opinion.

What is being inspected?

With the inspection of an evacuation system, we assess whether the objective is met. The objective must be traceable from the basic design (e.g. PoR). During the inspection we check the installation and test the associated controls, but we also look at organizational matters, such as the management of the installation, alarm follow-up, etc. The exact inspection points can be found in the CCV inspection schedule. On the basis of this inspection, we draw up an inspection report.

Follow-up inspection

Once an initial inspection has been performed, a periodic inspection must then take place. We do this to verify that management is being carried out properly and that the plant is still fulfilling its stated objective. The interval of this inspection is annual, or depending on the requirements set for the object.

Inspection Certificate

An inspection certificate is required to demonstrate that your building meets fire safety standards. During the inspection, the systems, structural provisions, and organizational measures are assessed. If all aspects are in order, you will receive an inspection certificate from us. This serves as proof — for instance to your insurer — that your fire protection complies with the relevant requirements.
