Smoke control installation

The Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving (Bbl) contains the nationally applicable regulations for using buildings in a fire-safe manner. In various situations, you can comply with the Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving (Bbl) with the presence of a smoke management system that has an inspection certificate. A smoke management system is designed to remove smoke and heat in the event of a fire. In the event of a fire, the greatest danger is often caused by smoke. Smoke reduces visibility and makes breathing difficult. As a result, most victims in fires suffer from suffocation or smoke poisoning. With a smoke control system, hot smoke and combustion gases are vented to the outside. This allows for a safe evacuation.

When an inspection?

If smoke control systems are used as an equivalent solution to a building code requirement, these systems must always be provided with an inspection certificate in accordance with the CCV inspection scheme. Of course, it is also possible to have an inspection carried out on a voluntary basis. For example to have certainty about the correct execution or current status (0-inspection) of your smoke control systems or to gain a second opinion.

What is inspected?

Inspections of smoke control systems look at the secondary objective. This objective must be traceable from the Basic Design (e.g. Schedule of Requirements). During the inspection the installation is checked and the associated controls are tested, but also architectural and organizational issues are considered, such as the management of the installation, storage, etc. The exact inspection points can be found in the CCV inspection schedule. Inspections can also take place to determine conformity with the standard or the baseline document.

Follow-up inspection

Once an initial inspection has been performed, a periodic inspection must then take place. We do this to verify that management is being carried out properly and that the plant is still fulfilling its stated objective. The interval of this inspection is annual, or depending on the requirements set for the object.

Inspection Certificate

An inspection certificate is required to demonstrate that your building meets fire safety standards. During the inspection, the systems, structural provisions, and organizational measures are assessed. If all aspects are in order, you will receive an inspection certificate from us. This serves as proof — for instance to your insurer — that your fire protection complies with the relevant requirements.
