Jumbo: “Sensory understands our business”

Jumbo has its taste tests carried out by Sensory, part of Normec Foodcare. “Sensory understands the business we are in,” says Jumbo's quality manager. “They are fast, flexible, and they think along with us.”

Smooth cooperation

“Normec Foodcare is a pleasant company to work with,” says Helen van Maarschalkerweerd, Quality Manager Consumer Research at Jumbo. "It's great that they respond quickly. They ensure that we receive a report within two weeks, even if something goes wrong. For example, suppliers sometimes deliver their products late. Sensory often finds a solution so that we don't experience any delays in the process."

The right questions

Jumbo is also satisfied with the quality of Sensory's work. “They provide questionnaires that are well tailored to the products we are testing,” says Helen. "We receive these questionnaires in advance so that we can check whether anything is missing and whether the questions are relevant. It is important to us that they ask exactly the right questions, because otherwise they will mislead consumers. For example, you should only ask about creaminess if a product has aspects that can be assessed as creamy. The right questions ensure a reliable result.“ Helen is also very pleased with the way Sensory reports the results. ”We always receive two reports: a summary and a detailed report. This gives us a quick overview of the results. And for more in-depth information, we can consult the detailed report."

Uploading to our system

The quality manager at Jumbo also thinks that Sensory thinks along with them. “Everything is negotiable and they always come up with good solutions. For example, we asked them to upload the reports to our system. That was no problem. It saves us a lot of work and we now always have insight into the current status of our tests.” Sensory also thinks along with Jumbo in other areas. "Most of the tests we have Sensory carry out are standard, but sometimes we want something special. For example, it is sometimes desirable for consumers to test the products at home. Or we want a test carried out where we need the results the same day. Requests like that are hardly ever a problem. And we are always welcome to be present during the tests if we want to be. That way, we can see how the results are achieved and better understand why consumers make certain choices."

Regular contacts

Helen also likes working with regular contacts. “They understand exactly what we want and what we mean. And yet they never fill in anything for us without being asked. If in doubt, they always check whether they have understood our request correctly. This means we always get the result we had in mind. It makes them a partner we can rely on.”
