Frequently asked questions about the inspection process
We understand that you may have questions before, during, or after scheduling an inspection of your fire safety system and/or installation. And we know better than anyone how important proper information and preparation are. That’s why our specialists have compiled and answered the most frequently asked questions for you.
Which documents do I need to provide for the inspection?
To prepare for the inspection, we require the basic design documentation. This includes the design brief and the program of requirements. We also request the detailed design, consisting of block diagrams, function matrices, installation drawings, and for sprinkler systems, the hydraulic calculations. A full list of the required documents can be found in your appointment confirmation and quotation.
What kind of support is needed during the inspection process?
Depending on the type of inspection, it is helpful to have a maintenance technician, installer, or commissioning engineer present. These individuals know exactly where the components to be inspected are located.
Your appointment confirmation will specify which qualified personnel should be present to ensure a smooth inspection process. If you have any questions, you can contact your assigned inspector directly.
What can the user expect during the inspection?
The inspector and those present will first inspect and test components that do not cause disruption to other users of the building. Afterwards, any control functions will be tested and activated. These can cause inconvenience, so it’s best to inform building users in advance. Examples include:
Elevators and doors closing
Alarms and evacuation signals activating
After the system and its control functions have been tested, the inspector will discuss the results and prepare the inspection report.
What’s the difference between a draft and final report?
You will receive the draft report within five working days after the inspection. It is then reviewed by a fellow inspector. If there are any questions or adjustments, we will inform you—so there are no surprises in the final report. This also gives you the opportunity to correct any deviations and request a reassessment, which can then be included in the final report.
