The world of fruit and vegetables is constantly changing. Quality and availability fluctuate from day to day and from season to season. New areas of origin, introduction of products and innovative growing techniques also create dynamics. Continuous learning and training is therefore essential. Sweet potato added to P5
The popularity of the sweet potato has grown tremendously in recent years. Since 2015, the product has already been part of module P16 Exotics. A UNECE standard for sweet potato was even set in 2024. It is clear: we cannot ignore this product anymore.
Therefore, sweet potato will now get a permanent place in the inspection module P5. The first start date is 13 May, followed by a second opportunity on 4 September. Two great moments to further expand your knowledge.
Learning objectives Inspector module P5
Understand appellations, origins, history and appearance.
Gain understanding of production and trade flows.
Learn cultivation, varieties, harvesting, diseases & defects.
Explore EU regulations and UNECE guidelines.
Delve into storage conditions, storage duration, temperature, allergens/bio.
Develop practical inspection skills and recognise varieties, ripeness, diseases & defects.
Apply public and private regulations, quality standards and grading rules.
Assess phytosanitary, residue, tolerance, packaging, cask and marking regulations.
Experience farm visits to growers and packing stations.
Content and structure
The module combines theory with practice. You complete the course with two exams. With a score of at least 70%, you will receive the certificate. Count on a study load of about 3 hours per exam.
