Pleasant and informal way of communicating
Slokker Bouwgroep has been a client of Normec NCK since 2015 and is certified for: VCA*, VCA**, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
The Slokker Group was founded in 1935 and is based in the Netherlands, Canada, and the United States. With over 85 years of experience in the real estate market, the company operates as a developer, builder, investor, or any combination thereof. It is a 100% family-owned business, now in its third generation of leadership. Innovation has been a continuous thread running through the company for decades.
Interview with Erna Snelder, KAM Coordinator at Slokker Bouwgroep
I knew Normec NCK from a previous position. When I joined Slokker Bouwgroep at the end of 2014, I essentially brought them along. What I appreciate about their approach is the short lines of communication and the pleasant, informal way of working together. This includes open discussions about things I am critical of. There is transparency and mutual respect. Therefore, I would describe our relationship as a partnership.

Own Responsibility for Certifications
"Each of Slokker's branches is responsible for its own certifications. Normec NCK helps by selecting the best auditor for the branch where an audit is scheduled. It is typical for Slokker that we prefer to be rigorously audited. Yes, certification is important for being selected for certain projects, but for us, it’s mainly about the learning process. Are our process quality, working conditions, and environmental aspects still in order, and how can we make them even better? In this process, it becomes clear how valuable it is that an auditor has practical experience. I myself come from a background in construction and safety, so I have a lot of hands-on experience and knowledge of the standards. But the auditors from Normec NCK visit so many different companies that everything they notice – and I’m not just referring to deviations – I see as a learning moment. That’s the added value of an audit for me."
In the Spirit of the Standard
Another advantage of that practical experience is that the auditors no longer need to familiarize themselves with the business processes, which allows for a deeper audit. In addition, they don’t just assess processes based on a checklist, but more in the spirit of the standard. Simply because they understand the day-to-day operations and know what really matters.
At Slokker, we want to deliver a product that not only meets customer requirements but also complies with legal and regulatory standards. We aim to protect our employees and everyone working around the construction site, as well as the environment. This need is intrinsic and not driven by a standard or certification. However, the signal to the outside world that an external body recognizes our way of working as being sound is, today more than ever, perhaps even more important.
